My interest in the Jewish Bible and my lifetime of professional musical experience have over the years merged into a deep interest in the Legendary Music of the Temple in Jerusalem as reported in the Bible and the Talmud.
It is my belief that many other people share the interested in the reconstruction of this music, or at least artistic conjecture of this Sacred orchestra and chorus. It would therefore be a service to mankind to establish a musical institution given over to speculative, scholarly, archaeological and imaginative attempts to achieve something of the spirit and historical sound of Temple Music or to try to anticipate whatever completely new sounds which may be in the offing for the future, when this Temple will be in some form rebuilt in Jerusalem.
I envision a minimal orchestra of about the size and musical capacity of a Baroque orchestra (about 25 players) with a minimal choir of 12. All questions of instrumentation, orchestration , composition, aesthetics, and so on will be properly and deeply considered. The orchestra will provide a platform for exploration, experimentation of Jewish Spirituality, Metaphysics, Kabbalah, Prophecy and so on as related to musical expression.
It is my conviction that such an ensemble will raise the standard of of religious aesthetics, and provide a enormous impetus to intellectual and cultural understanding among Jews and between Jews and non Jews.
I welcome the response of anyone in anyone who is interested in participating in such a proposed project.
